The program will be open to recent PhD graduates and doctoral students in the field of social sciences and law.

The Academy Scholars Program identifies and helps brilliant scholars at the beginning of their careers. The research combines academic excellence in the field of social sciences or law along with an understanding of the language, history, or cultures of nations or regions that are not part of those of the United States or Canada. Their research may help to clarify national, comparative, or transnational issues, either in the past or current.

The Academy Scholars are a select group of people who have a sense of and initiative, as well as curiosity and originality. Their work in regions or cultures that are not part from the US or Canada is a promising basis for exceptional careers in major international universities.

Academy Scholars are selected to receive two years of residence, postdoctoral position at the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. They receive significant financial and research support to carry out long-term research projects or acquire additional training in their selected specialties and fields of study. The Senior Scholars are a distinguished group comprised of seniors Harvard University faculty members, serve as mentors for the Academy Scholars to assist them reach their full potential as intellectuals.

Eligibility

here are the requirements to be eligible for this scholarship. Harvard Scholarship 2019 – 2020

  • The contest for these awards is only open to doctoral students who have recently graduated (or equivalent professional degrees) and doctoral students in the fields of law or social sciences.
  • People who are still in pursuit of the doctorate must have completed their coursework and write a thesis that is well-written prior to applying to be Academy Scholars. If you’ve completed a doctoral degree The date you complete the doctorate should be within three years of the deadline for applications in October 1.
  • To be eligible for an extension of the time limit to October 1st 2018 you must complete your doctoral or equivalent by September 30 the year 2015.
  • The Selection Committee considers all applicants within a set of applicants.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Every year, four to 5 Academy Academics are appointed to two-year contracts. Academy Academics are required to be based in the Cambridge and Boston region while their appointments are in effect until they travel abroad to other locations for research that has been approved.
  • Students from The Postdoctoral Academy will be paid an annual salary of $67,000. If they are selected prior to obtaining the doctorate, fellows will be paid an annual stipend of 31,000 until they earn their doctorate. This stipend will be supplemented by funding for conferences and research excursions, research assistants and insurance coverage for health. The possibility of teaching is permissible but it is not compulsory.
  • Applications from people who meet the requirements are considered regardless of gender, nationality, or race.

  1. The cover letter should clearly state the applicant’s academic discipline as well as the country or region of the area of specialization, as well as the their research area of interest
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV) (also known as resume) with a list of publications
  3. Research proposal (2500 words maximum) with intellectual goals and plans for methodology and disciplinary research
  4. An official copy of your PhD program transcript
  5. Three recommendation letters (uploaded via on the application online)
